The town, which was previously known as Top Plain, adopted the name of Briagolong in 1873. It is taken from the name of the Aboriginal tribe, the Braiakaulung, who occupied the area.

Things to do in Briagolong

The town is perhaps best known for the tranquil Blue Pool swimming hole, a large natural pool in a gorge on Freestone Creek. It’s a well-known swimming spot by locals, but has somehow managed to stay off the radar until recently.
