An Ongoing Battle with the Elements
The Koo Wee Rup climate
In Koo Wee Rup, the climate is warm and temperate, with steady rainfall year round, warm to hot summers, and cool wet winters.
Koo Wee Rup's average annual rainfall is 718.1mm, similar to nearby capital Melbourne.
Koo Wee Rup is Australia's largest asparagus-growing district. It is also a beef-farming and potato-growing area. The town was previously well known for its potato festival, which was held each March to raise funds for the Westernport Memorial Hospital.
Rainwater run-off and flooding
While many people across our dry nation relish the sight of rain, evolving weather conditions, and modern infrastructure have resulted in increasing cases of storm water run off and flash flooding.
If Koo Wee Rup received 100mm of rain in a twenty-four hour downpour, it would require just 100 houses to have water tanks to keep 2 million litres of water from entering stormwater systems and contributing to stormwater runoff and flooding damages.
Bushfire preparation
Australia is famous around the world for its long hot summers, and excluding the uninhabitable Antarctica, is the driest continent in the world. Pairing this with the way many Australian plants behave, much of Victoria is vulnerable to large scale wildfires.
It is important in any rural setting to ensure that you are doing the most you can to protect yourself from bushfire. You can do this by ensuring that you have a bushfire action plan, along with adequate water storage for fire fighting purposes.
Pioneer Water Tanks offers the option of a fire reserve in your tank, to ensure it can be used for both household water storage and fire protection.
Outperforming all comers in bushfire conditions
The CSIRO performed bushfire simulation tests on water tanks in partnership with the Bushfire and National Hazards CRC, and the results showed that a steel Pioneer Water Tank held up better than the competition.
After 30 minutes of submersion in flame, the Pioneer Water Tank continued to hold water, a crucial feature for firefighting efforts, while the other tanks tested either melted or split, causing their water to be partially or fully lost.
After a fire front has gone by, the water in your tank can still be used for non-consumptive purposes, like irrigating your gardens, however, it is highly recommended to get your water tested as soon as possible to make sure that your water is safe before using it for food preparation or drinking.
The Pioneer Water Tanks Difference
Pioneer V-Lock ® tank wall profile
Designed for toughness and for the sole purpose of water storage, the Pioneer V-Lock ® tank wall profile is also a Pioneer Water Tanks exclusive.
The V-Lock profile is designed both for sturdiness and to protect the tank liner, by preventing stretching and wear, and the sheets are engineered to the ideal thickness for each panel, meaning we put the steel where it's required most.
Don't just take our word for it, the design is so sound, it won an Australian Design Award for its strength and appearance.
Aqualiner Fresh ® antimicrobial water tank liner
The Aqualiner Fresh ® water tank liner is a Pioneer Water Tanks exclusive, the only antimicrobial tank liner available on the market today, and is proven to prevent the growth of algae and bacteria in your water tank.
Utilising Sanitized ® technology, the Aqualiner Fresh ® water tank liner has the antibacterial properties of silver woven into the tank liner.
The most technologically advanced, cleanest and strongest liner available on the market, this is an industry leading product, made up of five distinct layers to protect and store your water.
