Launching Place is a town in Victoria, located along the Warburton Highway between Woori Yallock and Yarra Junction. It is believed that Launching Place is named after the place on the Yarra River where freshly cut logs were "launched" into the river to be floated down to sawmills in Melbourne.

Outperforming all comers in bushfire conditions

The CSIRO performed bushfire simulation tests on water tanks in collaboration with the Bushfire and National Hazards CRC, and the results showed that a steel Pioneer Water Tank held up better than the competition.

After 30 minutes of submersion in flame, the Pioneer Water Tank continued to hold water, a vital feature for firefighting efforts, while the other tanks tested either melted or split, causing their water to be partly or fully lost.

While a water tank will still prove adequate for watering gardens or lawns, if it has been exposed to fire, it is highly recommended that you get the tank water tested as soon as possible to ensure that it is still safe for domestic use.

Launching Place Local Insight

Local knowledge

Prior to the arrival of Europeans the Bunurrong and Wawurrong people of the traditional Wurundjeri-Balluk Aboriginal group lived in the area. The first Europeans were goldminers in the 1850s.

The Derelict Aircraft Museum was formerly located in Launching Place but, by 2017, it had been closed and dismantled.

Things to do in Launching Place

Launching Place has many camping grounds, and people use it was a base for camping, hiking and boating in the Yarra River.

The Yarra Junction to Launching Place section of the The Lilydale to Warburton Rail Trail cuts back and forth across the Warburton Highway and ends at The Launching Place Hotel.
