The average person in Australia uses roughly 120 000 litres of water a year. However, thankfully, this doesn't mean you need 120 000 litres of water storage for each person residing in your home, as this number is based primarily on suburban water usage figures, where much of the water is used on irrigation and toilet flushing, and the average rural, or semi-rural home uses much less water than this.

At Pioneer, we estimate that the average rural home needs about 30 000 litres of water storage per person, so if you're relying on that alone, any rainwater tank larger than this should be sufficient. However, your ability to harvest rainwater is heavily dependent on your annual rainfall and catchment area of your home.

Most Poly Rainwater Tank manufacturers typically only provide tanks in sizes of up to 50 000 litres, which typically isn't enough for a home or household of any more than one or two people who are relying solely on rainwater.

Pioneer offers a range of steel water tanks starting at 12 200 litres up to 500 000 litres, and larger or more specific water storage facilities for commercial or industrial applications can also be quoted to order.

The more water storage your home requires, typically the more cost effective a steel water tank becomes.

While water quality can sometimes be determined by the smell, look and taste test, bacterial contamination can often slip past these tests, and high numbers of bacteria can impair the hygiene of the water.

Pioneer's Aqualiner FRESH® water tank liner incorporates Sanitized® antimicrobial technology into a tank liner, using a high tech multi layered liner, which offers the best available protection from algae, bacteria and mould.

Sanitized® antimicrobial technology adds an additional layer of defence in the fight against microbes to maintain water quality.

This depends, of course, on the size of the water tank that you are looking to install for your home. Once you know what size tank you are looking to install, it is a safe rule of thumb to make sure you have a space at least 3 metres wider than the diameter of your desired water tank.

This not only safely ensures room for the required 1 metre of space on all sides of the tank for the sand pad, but prevents any other difficulties at the time of installation.

The steel base is made to meet Australian Standard AS1397, ensuring strict adherence to the highest quality grade and finish of your steel.

The steel base of the panels is coated with Activate® technology, BlueScope’s globally patented and industry leading metallic coating that ensures outstanding anti-corrosion performance.

A thin pre-treatment layer is applied to enhance the adhesion of further coatings.

A polyester primer is baked on to the surface.

A topcoat of specially developed exterior grade lead-free paint (compliant with Australian/New Zealand Standard AS/NZS2728) is baked on and will have enhanced resistance to chipping, peeling and cracking and to ensure the finish retains its look for longer.
