Warburton Water Tanks

Warburton is a town in Victoria, Australia, 72 kilometres east of Melbourne's within the Shire of Yarra Ranges, approximately 15 kilometres from the town of Healesville.

For over 30 years now, Pioneer Water Tanks have been building and designing water tanks Warburton can rely on.

The backing and history of Australia's number one big tank company, means that customers in Warburton can be satisfied with their water storage solutions.

Although much of the rest of the country hold the belief that Victoria is a verdant land of plentiful rains, people in Victoria know better, and are mindful of their water storage needs.

An Ongoing Battle with the Elements

The Warburton climate

In the Warburton area, the climate is warm and temperate, with plentiful year round rainfall, warm to hot summers, and cold wet winters.

Warburton has an average annual rainfall of 750 mm, making it wetter than the nearby capital in Melbourne, but not as wet as some surrounding areas like Healesville.

In the past it was a town driven primarily by the timber industry, however today it has become a popular day tripper destination offering excellent walks along the river as well as swimming, fishing, bushwalking, horse riding and  birdwatching.

Rainwater run-off and flooding

In a country as dry as Australia, rain of any kind is often a welcome sight, however modern facilities like roads and sidewalks, along with evolving weather conditions, can often lead to flash flooding as a result of storm water run off, which can cause extensive damage.

If Warburton received 100mm of rain in a twenty-four hour downpour, it would require just one hundred homes to have water tanks to keep 2 million litres of water from entering stormwater systems and contributing to stormwater runoff and flooding damages.

Bushfire preparation

Australia is world famous for having long warm summers, and if you discount the obvious outlier in Antarctica, is the driest continent on earth. This, coupled with the life cycle of many native plants, leaves much of Victoria susceptible to widespread bushfires.

An important way to prepare for the drier summer months is to ensure that you not only have a bushfire action plan, but also that you have sufficient water storage to help you and emergency services protect against the threat of bushfire.

So as to ensure your water tank can be used for the purposes of both domestic or property water storage, and fire protection, Pioneer Water Tanks offers the option of a fire reserve.

Outperforming all comers in bushfire conditions

When the Bushfire and National Hazards CRC together with the CSIRO performed bushfire simulations on a range of water tanks, a steel Pioneer Water Tank performed best.

All other tanks tested either melted or split, causing them to lose valuable water, however the Pioneer Water Tank continued to hold water after being exposed to the full 30 minute fire front, which could prove essential to fire fighting efforts.

If your water tank has been subjected to fire, it is important to ensure that you get your water tested as soon as possible to make sure that it is safe for food preparation or drinking. The water would, however, still be suitable for purposes like watering gardens or lawns.

The Pioneer Water Tanks Difference

Pioneer V-Lock ® tank wall profile

The Pioneer V-Lock ® tank wall profile has been engineered for toughness, and designed with the sole purpose of water storage in mind.

The V-Lock profile is designed both for sturdiness and to protect the tank liner, by preventing stretching and wear, and the sheets are engineered to the ideal thickness for each panel, meaning we put the steel where it's needed most.

The design was deemed so good, in regards to structural integrity and aesthetic appeal, it won an Australian Design Award.

Aqualiner Fresh® antimicrobial water tank liner

Shown to prevent the growth of harmful bacteria in your water tank, the Aqualiner Fresh ® water tank liner is the only antimicrobial water tank liner available on the market, and a Pioneer Water tanks exclusive.

The natural antimicrobial qualities of silver and Sanitized ® technology are woven into the Aqualiner Fresh ® water tank liner.

The industry leading water tank liner is comprised of five layers that form the strongest, cleanest and most scientifically advanced water tank liner on the market.

Warburton Local Insight

Local knowledge

Prior to the arrival of Europeans the Bunurrong and Wawurrong people of the traditional Wurundjeri-Balluk Aboriginal group lived in the area. The first Europeans were goldminers in the 1850s.

The name "Warburton" has been shared between two townships over the years. The mining town of "Yankee Jim's Creek" was located on the gold-bearing slopes of Mount Little Joe. Hostile terrain, fire, drought, flood, steep slopes, unsustainable roads, crime and easier pickings for miners further upstream put an end to "Old Warburton".

Things to do in Warburton

The Warburton Circuit is a 10 km, two hour walk. It is an opportunity to walk through the backstreets of Warburton, get elevated views of the town, walk through stands of Mountain Grey gums and inspect a waterfall in Dolly Grey park.

There are six bridges across the Yarra River at Warburton. The most impressive are the Swing Bridge, the Bramich Bridge (a quaint wooden footbridge) and the Redwood Bridge which was completed in 2000 and offers excellent views of the town's redwood forest.
